Should criminal penalties for false rape accusations be increased, in light of the Duke case?

One of the most disturbing epidemics in existence in society at present is the exponential increase of false accusations. Along with this is the fact that false allegations have been used to convict innocent males for crimes they did not commit, even when there is evidence that the accusation made was indeed false. The law system is no longer using solid evidence to determine whether a defendant is innocent or guilty of the crime they are accused of committing. Instead, the system is relying almost solely on the accusation that was made. Most accusations tend to be made by females. The prosecution no longer obtains evidence to support the legitimacy of an accusation; instead, they proceed to trial based on the ';word'; of the accuser.Should criminal penalties for false rape accusations be increased, in light of the Duke case?
Yes. The Duke tramp should rot in jail and be made to pay restitution to the men, the courts, the police and judicial system.Should criminal penalties for false rape accusations be increased, in light of the Duke case?
charges should be brought against the prosecutor
the charge for false accusations of any kind should carry the same fate for the accuser as the fate would be for the crime itself..example, if you falsely accuse some one of a crime that carrys a max. sentence of 10 years, and it is proved in court that you intentionally accused this person falsely then you should receive 10 years
Yes........................

great question / great mystery
As one who was falsely accused, I think the penalties should be increased. I was lucky that before the charges were filled, the alleged victim recanted. Later the person did the same thing to another person. This put me through a lot of grief, embarrassment and cost me some money. The accuser walked away free of any penalty
Very cool avatar. Hmmmm....Maybe they should! This whole case was a travesty of justice and using the ';race card'; to the extreme!
a false rape report should carry the same penalty as a real rape charge...because the man (usually) is put into prison, his life is taken away from him and he is exposed to real danger to his own person (including rape by another inmate)
this may seem harsh as a female, but a lot of women put themselves into situations that end up badly. if you are a drunk stripper at a party, i find it hard to believe you didnt think about being raped. just because it didnt happen before doesnt mean it wont this time. also, i think a lot of females that cry rape falsely, do it because they feel they were taken advantage of, i.e he wont call after having sex, him treating you like a tramp because you let him have sex so easily...i think the latter is what happened in the kobe bryant case. i feel sorry for the guys at Duke. and i also feel sorry for these girls growing up who arent taught how to handle themselves.
I don't know whether the penalties should be increased but I think it's sad when people falsefiy rape accusations because it ruins someones life. Also it makes it that much harder for women that have actually been rapped.
considering the amount of punishment and SHAME associated with being a rapist, just having the label of rapist is bad enough... falsely accusing someone is HORRIBLE, considering what the actual crime intails... YES, YES, YES that person is a liar and should be treated the same way a real rapist would! And hopefully carry the same shame and guilt on their shoulders!
that is unexpected, and I'm very surprised at the results. Yes, I think punishments should be harsher in the case of a provably false accusation, however you need to remember that sexual assault is still a big problem and that many cases of rape are believed to go unreported.
