What happens if a cop filed a false report in a case? What can happen to him/her? Should the accused,?

sue after the case has been resolved? Beyond filing a complaint, what else can the accused do to bring the situation to light?

Why is it that cops can get away with filing false reports especially after the accused is found not guilty? What happens if a cop filed a false report in a case? What can happen to him/her? Should the accused,?
Patricia,

A police report is information given to an officer, which regulations or law require that he document. It is not to be considered an accusation of guilt, but may be the basis of an investigation. Guilt or innocence is the responsibility of the court. The only way a law enforcement officer could file a false report is if they totally made the information up on their own, without a complainant.

What would you think if you were assaulted by someone and went to the police to file a report and were told no, because they didn't personally see it. You would then be the irrate citizen filing a complaint for being called a liar, or suing for lack of police protection. I am glad justice was done in you case, but your troubles are caused by the person making allegations and not the officer taking the report. What happens if a cop filed a false report in a case? Depends on the nature of the falsity. If the cop merely wrote down something that was incorrect, like the wrong license plate number, that is a mistake but nothing more. If the cop knowingly filed false material information, and that information led to an arrest, then the cop can indeed be charged with a crime and can be liable for your damages. Being found not guilty, however, does not mean any reports were false or that they led to an arrest. A cop can correctly describe his observations, and those observations can make an arrest lawful, while the conclusions he drew from those observations are ultimately wrong.
Do you even comprehend how many people claim they were wronged or false reports or try to sue the police? funny cause when those same people need help, who do they call. Possibly had you not gotten into any trouble in the first place you wouldn't be in this situation. Cops deal with so much crap you have no idea. I'm sure your completely innocent right. Don't break the law and you won't have to deal with the police till one day you may need their help. it's a done deal, just cause your found not guilty doesn't mean the police didn't have reason to pursue what ever it was this was about, that is their job
