It does not say what sentence she got. I personally feel women who are proven beyond all doubt to have lied about something so heinous, should receive an equivalent sentence to what the man would ben given, if he were guilty.
The problem is, sentencing women so harshly would deter real victims from reporting attacks.
Should sentences for false rape claims be more severe?Woman jailed for false rape claim - do these women damage the cases of genuine victims?
Yes they do damage the cases of real victims. There is already an attitude amongst some that if a woman is raped she was deserving of it in some way - that she was dressed too provocatively, that she was drunk etc. Now with so many cases of women falsely reporting rapes some people will always have that element of doubt in the back of their mind too. I agree that women who do cry rape when they have not been assaulted should get harsher sentences. Falsely accusing someone of such a heinous crime can ruin their lives and even if acquitted they still struggle to escape the stigma because they are not afforded the right to anonymity that the ';victim'; was.Woman jailed for false rape claim - do these women damage the cases of genuine victims?
The worst false ';rape';claim was the one against Mike Tyson, a bimbo was in his hotel bedroom at 3 AM actually in his bed and ended up getting several million$ after claiming rape and Mike was jailed. It was Mike who was raped not the bimbo. It should not be possible for a girl to claim rape with no witnesses when she was in the guy's bedroom at 3 AM. It is a bit like complaining about getting wet after jumping into a swimming pool
But yes I have sympathy with genuine rape victims and many are not charged who should be charged.
Every woman who makes a false rape claim undermines the claim of a woman who has been genuinely raped. there was a recent case with lawyer who claimed she had been raped and the man concerned was found not guilty. her claim was a classic case of regrets the morning after the night before. She walks away without any consequences he has to have it noted on his grey form if he wants to work with children or the elderly. This means he will not get the job. This strikes me as a great injustice which can not be covered with the standard claim ';Our childrens safety is paramout'; It is not and never has been what is paramount is the safety of the departmment which wrecks peoples lives. There is far too many items which have been incorpoated into o[our legal system in which the accused has to prove innocence rather than the other way around and it looks now as if to be accused is enough to bring about many of the consequencews of a guilty verdict even if the accused is found not gulty
I think that someone who makes a false claim about something as serious as rape should, as you said get the same sentence as the man would get. Think about all the time wasted trying to prove she was raped and that time could be spent solving real crimes. Also the reputation of that man is going to be ruined, even if proven innocent there are a lot of ignorant people who wouldn't believe it.
Mum to Olivia Rose said the magic words, Ulrika Johnson that slu't should'nt have been allowed to see daylight for 5 years. Yes yer man is a prick, yes he's a **** but so am i, her word if it came to it against mine and i'm up in court for rape! if convicted i'm liable for 7 years imprisonment and she is still able to get her horrible filthy mouth on TV and still be seen as the victim when she already was a proven liar by by the court. Theres only two false accusations i can think off that make me physically sick, one is rape and the other is child abuse, but she walked from court with no charges against her!
Yes they do a great deal of damage.
They make a mockery of the real victims plights, they make a mockery of the law, and most of all they damage the reputation of an innocent man.
If any woman did that to a man in my family I would want them to be punished in exactly the same way as a common, evil male rapist.
most oftenly rape can be proven, so if beyond all resonable doubt that a woman is proven guilty, i agree she should get the same sentence as a man would get. one she lied to authorities, 2 she made people waste there time on a false case, that would only benefit her probably. and three she takes the accountability of other rape case victims away cause of her lie.
Any =false claim= of a crime committed is treated very seriously by the law, it wastes police time ( and they have not got a lot of time to waste these days) it can destroy the innocent victims life /.family,etc.
I agree the punishment for such an heinous act should be tightened up and more severe sentences issued.
Yes they should!!
Anyone that make such claims when they are false deserves a long prison sentence.
Rape is an horrific ordeal, one that most never come to terms with fully. The physical stuff heals but the emotional trauma stays a life time. Anyone using this as an excuse to 'get at' another person is lower than low and not worth the air they breathe!!
I know a guy that was falsely accused of rape and even after it was proven that he didn't do it he was treated as if he did. People acted like he was a sexual predator and it made his life miserable.
Maybe the best way to overcome the problem of reporting these crimes is to have a news blackout on such cases as the one you're referring to.
I think it is a dreadful crime from the point of view of the man involved as well as genuine rape victims, who always seem to be doubted anyway. They do deserve a very hefty sentence.
They usually report the name of the alleged rapist in the media but never the ';victim';.
interesting world we are living in. The innocent are now being persecuted more than ever...prayer it's not your relative in this position
Yes i fully agree they should be treated far more harshly - for the untold damage they cause to an innocent man.
yes - it's a serious crime
the trouble is that 'mud sticks'
that poor man
i think both parties should remain anonymous
Oh my giddie gosh why she gone do that for. Yes it does tarnish the whole thing really.
No, I don't think so. It happens so very rarely, that cases like these are a small drop in the ocean compared to the huge number of cases which do not even get reported and everyone of any intelligence (of which you'd hope judges were among) knows that.
While lying about rape is terrible - I don't think they should be given the same sentences as rapists, no - obviously not.
Edit: It is absolutely not true to say that ';if someone were genuinely attacked they'd have no fear in reporting it'; as one of your posters said. There are many, many reasons why a genuine victim wouldn't come forward.
The other problem is the''no smoke without fire'' attitude that comes in cases like this. That's why I believe no one should be named until after they have been found guilty.I agree with you-the sentence should reflect the seriousness of these allegations-after all an allegation like this can destroy an innocent mans life forever.
If you had genuinely been attacked then you should have nothing to fear from reporting it but as you said it could put off real victims but then on the other hand it may send out a message to those who wake up the next morning and regret it to not make false allegations!
